Another Special Edition JLC Reverso!

We have yet another special edition Jaeger-LeCoultre - this time to celebrate a landmark right at home!

To celebrate the 125th year anniversary of the iconic Raffles Hotel in Singapore, the hotel has partnered Jaeger-LeCoultre to create a special commemorative editions of another icon, the Reverso.

The gents model will be a Reverso Grande Taille while the ladies model will be the Grande Reverso Lady Ultra-Thin. The watches will be engraved 'Raffles Hotel 1887-2012 Singapore' on the reversed back.

A pair of the watches (one of each model) is part of a luxury two nights package costing SGD50,000 for the month of September - just in time for the the Formula 1 race in Singapore.

The luxury hotel has played host to many celebrities, politicians and royalties in its long history and is also home of the world famous cocktail Singapore Sling.

These JLCs now add to the growing list of special editions dedicated to Singapore like the PAM 432 and 433 and Singapore F1 watches from Tag Heuer and Richard Mille.

Limited Edition The Dark Knight Rises Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso

The highly anticipated third and "final" installment of the Dark Knight trilogy premiered world-wide this weekend. To mark the occasion, Jaeger-LeCoultre has announced a limited edition The Dark Knight Rises Reverso.

On the back of the flip case is the Batman logo similar to the image used in promotional materials for the movie.
Not much information has been released about the watch (release date, number of watches, price, etc). Let's see if it generates as much interest as the movie.

It is interesting to note that this is not the first Batman watch JLC has made.
In 1995 JLC released a Batman Forever Limited Edition Reverso in connection with the film starring Val Kilmer.

35 was produced but not sold, under agreement with Warner Brothers. The watches were auctioned for charity and used as lottery prizes.

Here's a picture - nearly two decades on, it looks a little tacky as would be the movie if you view it again now.

Luxury retailer, Sincere Watch, exchanges hands yet again

Business Times in Singapore reported today that luxury watch chain Sincere Watch has been sold to a Hong Kong billionaire for a cool SGD232 million (~USD181m).

It has to be noted that owner Mr Tay Liam Wee first sold the company in 2007 for SGD530 million, bought it back a few years later at SGD113 million before the latest transaction.

His total profit from these trades of the company his father founded in 1954 is a decent SGD649 million (~USD509m).

How does this affect the average watch-loving man on the street? The new owners may find ways to improve margin and yield and that will possibly translate to higher prices or lower discounts for end consumers. On the other hand, if the new owners have real deep pockets, they may increase investment in the company, open new grand boutiques, carry more brands and provide steeper competition on the other two big watch retailers. Or maybe it will just be status quo with the new owners hoping to pull off a "Mr-Tay" of their own and flip the investment for a nice profit.
